bad traffic events...

8 Apr 2008,2:34 am
We all have bad days, or bad parts to our days. It's how we deal with the aggravation those bad things engender that makes the difference. Today I began my day with a "bad traffic event". Usually I can drive my motorbike in the peak hour traffic and not worry too much about the congestion, pollution, impatience of other drivers and the dozens of other niggles that add to the driving experience here. Basically, most people on m'bikes here realise we are all in the same position...

Crap I love: the Selle SMP Strike saddle

31 Mar 2008,1:10 am
I’ve spent the last four years riding a handful of different bikes a few thousand miles total and in that time I’ve learned a lot about how my body works, what kind of bike feels most comfortable, and areas where comfort can be improved. It took quite a bit of trial and error to find the perfect seat for my road bike. It’s no secret that for both men and women cyclists, sitting on your junk for hundreds of hours a year can cause a lot of problems ( increased ED in male cyclist...

huh, I thought Cervelos were hand-crafted in Toronto, but it looks like they're painted/stickered chinese standard carbon framed bikes

Does a $5,000 bike improve an amateur cyclist’s performance?

14 Mar 2008,11:26 pm
If you’ve ever spent much time around cyclists, you’ve certainly noticed they love to talk gear and if you’ve ever picked up a bike magazine, you’ve been inundated with ads extolling the virtues of bike performance. It’s nearly impossible to separate the marketing fluff from facts whenever doing research on a new bike purchase, given that most publications (both online and off) publishing reviews also take advertising from the companies behind the products. While r...

Cycling/diet update, one month later

29 Feb 2008,6:23 pm
As a bit of public shaming, I’m going to do a monthly update on my progress of riding my bikes more and losing some weight . February is all good news because I’ve put in a lot of miles and I’ve lost 5 pounds. I rode about 280 miles in just under 20 hours of riding for the month (thanks to it being the cold winter, I also won my first monthly challenge over at the We Endure MetaFilter group). I didn’t watch what I ate too much, but I did pay attention to how much and whe...

random

21 Feb 2008,3:54 pm
Attempting to run errands was a mistake. Glad I didn’t go into work today. Reddit/digg etc seem to be dominated by posts about cults these days. I’m not sure if the scientology or the gtd folks scare me more. If I could figure out how to sell e-meters to productivity types, I could make a fortune. Maybe something once I clear off the todo list. Motorcycle hill climbing on tv. Awesome. 220hp nitro burning dirt bikes. Be There! Totally forgot about Henry Rollins being in town tonight....

Bikes, bikes, bikes

10 Feb 2008,10:29 pm
For the past few years I’ve been getting back into cycling in a big way. Though I’ve spent all my life riding bikes, after college I rarely had time or a place to ride. Now that’s all changed as I live in a relatively flat small town with plenty of roads and a healthy cycling scene. A couple summers ago I got my first road bike and went on a few 15 mile rides with the local bike shop group. Last year I raced in a couple cyclocross races and got my ass thoroughly kicked, but ha...

velodrome nationals

1 Sep 2002,11:35 am
Last night was the last night of the Track Cycling Nationals at the Velodrome. What can I say? It was very exciting. We went Friday and Saturday nights. Paula loves the new binoculars I got her for her birthday. We watched many of our hometown regulars take top honors. There's really nothing like watching the riders duke it out in the last turn, coming into the homestretch, to cross the finish, right in front of us. Watching near the track, at the boards, is also a trip. You can really feel the ...
