Developing an add-in for multiple versions of Office

27 May 2008,3:22 am
One of the common questions I get asked when I do sessions on VSTO / OBA development is "how can I target Office 2003 and Office 2007?" (I also get asked about previous versions of Office, but I have a less helpful response there). Mary Lee's done a great post about this very topic as has Andrew Whitechapel ( Can you build one add-in for multiple versions of Office? ). There's also an MSDN page ( Creating Solutions for Multiple Versions of Microsoft Office ). Of course, there are a few question...

A commenter at The Peking Duck declares that what we now have in Iraq is "the equivalent of a kind of Vichy Government being set up," and that morally the insurgents are right to resist and the quislings are wrong to cooperate. Richard presents the opposing view with a powerful summary of why — in spite of all Bush's failures and screw-ups — we can't abandon the Iraqi people to the hands of the murderous few. Document collaboration - questions

12 Feb 2008,6:58 pm
So, Andrew Chapman picked up my recent blue ocean post and thought aloud about document authoring practice today in that light. Having recently read Beautiful Code and being in the process of reading Beyond the Desktop Metaphor , I think that what Andrew may be touching upon is the need for the editor . Each of these books represents an edited collection of research, and while the individual research contributions (chapters) undoubtedly have value standalone, the editors add value by balancing ...

Christmas at my house

19 Dec 2007,10:16 am
Christmas decorations, at least. I wasn’t going to get a tree this year, but my sister and brother-in-law and their six kids were stopping by on their way to Alabama for Christmas, so I thought I’d go ahead and get one. I got it a few weeks ago–it’s one with the roots and all, which is a lovely concept in theory, but not so great when one lives alone and cannot carry it inside. I should have wised up when it took three guys to put it in the back of my car to get it home....

Haneef Charged With Recklessly Providing Support

14 Jul 2007,2:08 am
This just came in half an hour ago. Bloomberg reports: ``The charge is not one of having knowingly supported, but being reckless, and these offenses attract the possibility of very severe penalties,'' said Andrew Lynch, director of the terrorism and law project at the University of New South Wales. ``I think that is a fairly worrying state of affairs.'' I'm not sure if Australia can do any more to make itself less endearing to the Muslim countries around the world.

Interview: Paul Andrew on WF

2 Jul 2007,1:18 pm
Video Interview: Paul Andrew on Workflow Foundation In this interview I caught a few minutes of Paul's time to talk about Workflow Foundation or WF for short. Paul moved to Redmond from down under to take a role on the Evangelism team covering WF and WCF. The interview is not long, but that's the point, short and focused. To some, WF may seem like a "Johnny come lately", but MSFT has committed to use WF as its common workflow engine across its product lines beginning this year. (Fiscal years for...

Three more books + Andrew Conrad trivia

Tabloid Tales

22 Oct 2006,2:30 pm
I'm rapidly becoming convinced the Sunday Times is on a downward slide. It seems compelled to fill its pages with tawdry tabloid gossip rather than Real News, and hire bad columnists, like Daisy Waugh and Michael Portillo, whose greasily unctuous piece on David Blunkett had me reaching for my bucket this morning. Seriously. I love gossip rags, but there is a time and a place to get my fix of the goings on of Kate n' Pete n' Russ n' Jade n' Virtually Everybody Who Is Even Semi Famous or Who Appea...

BlueVision ASP.NET Intellisense Generator

15 Jul 2004,5:29 pm
Thanks to Wim for the plug, and for letting us know about a way to get intellisense for custom ASP.NET server controls without hacking XSD: ASP.NET control developers know how much of a pain it can be to create a specific XSD file in order to achieve IntelliSense support in your ASPX mark-up. See Andrew Duthie's article on MSDN here . I've been using the ASP.NET IntelliSense Generator from BlueVision Software for quite a while now and thought I'd share it with you. Enjoy!
